Agatha

$150.00

Patron of breast cancer sufferers, nurses, rape victims.- Feast Day February 5

The Agatha is a heart-shaped pendant cut with faceted ridges emanating from a sparkling white sapphire center. We chose a heart, the timeless symbol of love, and a clear gemstone to symbolize her purity, because of Agatha’s unwavering love for Christ- love that led her to martyrdom. The reverse of the pendant has an inscription of a prayer she said aloud, “Jesus Christ, Lord of all, you see my heart, you know my desires. Possess all that I am.”

Materials: 14k yellow gold vermeil

Dimensions: 16mm

Agatha was born in the third century in Sicily. As a young woman, she devoted herself to Christ as a consecrated virgin. Agatha attracted the unwanted attention of a powerful man who tried to force her away from her vow. When she refused, he had her arrested, tortured, repeatedly assaulted in a brothel, and denied food and medical attention. Accounts say that St. Peter appeared to Agatha in a vision and healed her wounds. Despite this miracle, Agatha’s persecutors continued to torture her, and she died a martyr around 251. She is one of seven female saints and martyrs included in the Roman canon of the mass.
