Anastasia
Patron of martyrs, widows, weavers, and those suffering from poisons- Feast Day December 25
The Anastasia earrings are statement earrings with a high polish center and a border of overlapping palms with an intricate, feathery quality. We chose earrings to emulate the styles of Anastasia’s own time, and we incorporated the palms to symbolize her martyrdom. From early days, the palm- taken from Christ’s entry into Jerusalem on Palm Sunday- was a symbol of Christian victory over death. St. Anastasia is revered in the Catholic and Eastern churches and artwork depicting her often shows her holding a palm.
Dimensions: 22mm
Materials: 14k yellow gold vermeil
Anastasia was a Roman born in the third century and secretly raised as a Christian by her mother. Though married to a pagan, Anastasia remained a Christian and ministered to imprisoned Christians. After her husband’s death, Anastasia gave away her fortune and spent her time traveling and healing. She was known as a “deliverer from potions,” as she was gifted at healing those who had been poisoned.
The facts of Anastasia’s martyrdom are not fully known, but she is one of seven early female saints and martyrs included in the Roman canon of the mass.
