Modeled after a medieval manuscript illustration, this coin-shaped pendant shows a bird flying toward the sun. The original illustration was inspired by St. Teresa of Avila's The Interior Castle, a spiritual work on prayer that describes the seven mansions of the soul. The innermost mansion is where the soul has communion with God. Here, the bird of the soul flies to its Creator.

Though she lived in the 16th century, St. Teresa of Avila remains a truly relatable female saint. Beautiful, witty, and charming, Teresa knew firsthand one of the most difficult virtues to cultivate is also perhaps the most important: humility. During her life, Teresa was a known reformer of her order, the Carmelite order, and of the Church. Privately, she was devoted to prayer and experienced visions. She wrote at the urging of others, leaving behind spiritual works including The Way of Perfection and The Interior Castle. Her writings are valuable guides for deepening one’s prayer life. St. Teresa of Avila is one of four female saints to be named a Doctor of the Church.
