Benedicta Jewelry takes its name from St. Teresa Benedicta of the Cross (born Edith Stein), whose intellect and courage inspire us. St. Edith Stein was born in 1891 to a Jewish German family. Edith had a fascinating life and a brilliant mind. She was an atheist in her teens, but after reading St. Teresa of Avila as a young adult, she converted to Catholicism and later became a Discalced Carmelite nun, taking on the name Teresa Benedicta of the Cross. In between, she pursued her doctorate in philosophy, writing and teaching at the university level.

In 1942, Nazis arrested Edith Stein from her convent in the Netherlands. She was murdered at Auschwitz in a gas chamber.
