Patron saint of eye disease, television - Feast Day August 11

This pendant features a brilliant lab-created white sapphire set in a monstrance shape, under a polished moon and stars. The design takes its inspiration from St. Clare's extraordinary courage during a Saracen invasion. According to the story, St. Clare defended her monastic order from invaders by simply, bravely trusting in the power of the real presence of Christ.

Dimensions: 17mm

Born in 1194 to a wealthy family in Assisi, Clare was inspired as a teenager by St. Francis of Assisi to renounce her wealth and live for the Lord. After first living with an order of Benedictine nuns, Clare was called to lead a new order, the Poor Ladies of San Damiano. Known for their austere rule of life, these nuns (later called the “Poor Clares”) lived in poverty and relative seclusion. Many miracles have been attributed to St. Clare, but one of the more legendary stories of her life places an ill Clare at the center of a violent invasion by Saracen mercenaries. According to the story, Clare took hold of the monstrance holding the Holy Eucharist and held it up to her window as protection against the invaders. The invaders fled.

St. Clare was canonized in 1255, only two years after her death.
