Dymphna
Patron saint of mental illness, depression, anxiety - Feast Day May 15
Dymphna's pendant is a medallion with a Celtic-inspired cross design with a rope border. The cross is a symbol of Dymphna's Christian faith and her Irish heritage, while the nautical rope border alludes to her escape across the sea.
Dimensions: 17mm
St. Dymphna was a 7th century Irish princess. Tragically, her mother, a devout Christian, died while she was still a child. Her pagan father’s grief was so great that he became mentally unstable; when his advisors suggested he marry his own daughter, he agreed. Dymphna escaped to Belgium with the help of a priest. There, she lived a Christian life and built a home for the sick. Her father eventually found her and attempted to force her to marry him. She refused. In his anger, her father violently attacked and killed her. After many miracles were attributed to visits to her burial site, Dymphna was canonized in 1247.
