Born in 1905 in Poland and canonized in 2000, St. Faustina was poor and relatively uneducated. After she entered the Congregation of the Sisters of Our Lady of Mercy, her spiritual mentor instructed her to keep a diary of her mystical experiences. This diary is now one of the most famous spiritual texts in the world. In her visions, St. Faustina had an extraordinary union with Christ, who told her that he wanted the world to know his merciful heart. In one vision, Christ asked her to commission the painting known as “The Divine Mercy,” where Christ is seen with his heart emanating rays of light toward the viewer. He asked that it be accompanied by the simple statement: “Jesus, I trust in you.”
