Our Joan medal is modeled on her family coat of arms. The polished crown, sword, and double fleur-de-lis symbols indicate the importance of her family's service to the King of France. The King reportedly gave Joan this coat of arms in return for her remarkable actions for her country, conferring a noble status to her family.

One of the most famous women in history, St. Joan of Arc was called by God to become a soldier and lead France in the Hundred Years War. Accounts of her life show her to be faithful, courageous, and entirely feminine- despite the men’s clothing she wore for protection. Joan was burned at the stake in 1431, at only 19 years old. Nearly 500 years later, in 1920, Joan was canonized as a saint.
