Nathanael
Patron of bookbinders, butchers, shoemakers, Armenia
Feast Day August 24
Suitable for men or women, the Nathanael pendant is a classic round medallion with a polished, stylized fig tree on a sandblasted background. The fig tree tells the mysterious story of Jesus “seeing” Nathanael- the sign Nathanael needed to declare Jesus the Son of God. The reverse of the pendant shows the lasered words “Come and see,” the words the apostle Philip spoke to Nathanael to invite him to come see Jesus.
Dimensions: 20mm
Materials: 14k yellow gold vermeil
Nathanael, also called Bartholomew, was one of Jesus’ chosen twelve Apostles. He appears in all the Gospels, and some of his words were recorded in the Gospel of John. When called by the apostle Philip to see Jesus of Nazareth, Nathanael is at first dubious that “anything good” can come from Nazareth. But Philip insists, saying simply, “Come and see.” Nathanael answers the call, meets Jesus, and declares him the Son of God. (John 1:45-51)
Nathanael is thought to have spread Christianity into India, Ethiopia, and Armenia, before he was martyred.
