New Eve

This dainty pendant is inspired by a medieval illustration depicting Mother Mary and Eve by the Tree of Death and of Life; while Eve distributes the damning fruit of sin to humanity, Mary gives the promise of life by handing out the Body of Christ in the Eucharist. The “leaves” are lab-grown marquise emeralds, and the center (denoting the Eucharist) is a stunning lab-created white sapphire.  “When I remember the disobedience of Eve, I weep. Mary, the Blessed Mother of Jesus, has been given many devotional titles through history. One of the oldest Marian titles is “New Eve.” St. Justin Martyr first wrote of Mary and Eve, explaining that the key difference between them was the choice of whom to believe. Eve believed the serpent, bringing sin and death into the world. Mary believed the angel, bringing light and life. Since the second century, Christians have prayed with gratitude for Mary’s “yes” to the Lord.
