Patron saint of infertility, impossible causes, loneliness - Feast Day May 22
Jagged rays emanate from a natural smoky quartz heart in this pendant inspired by the life of St. Rita of Cascia. The rays symbolize the power of prayerful love to overcome a harsh world of jealousy and vengeance. The brown smoky quartz heart is a nod to the simplicity St. Rita would have adhered to as an Augustinian nun.
Dimensions: 12mm
St. Rita was born in 1381 in Cascia, Italy. Though she felt called to be a nun, Rita’s parents arranged for her marriage to a nobleman when she was 16 years old. Sixteen years and two sons later, Rita’s husband was murdered, sparking a feud between prominent noble families and prompting her teenage sons to plot revenge. A peacemaker by nature, Rita fervently prayed that her sons would not do violence. Her prayers were poignantly answered; both of her sons died from illness within a year of their father’s murder. Rita turned her grief to action, mediating peace between the warring families, and later became an Augustinian nun. Rita was canonized as a saint in 1900.
